Welcome to the 11th Annual Cactus Challenge
Friday and Saturday
September 19th - 20th, 2008
Ashmore Inn
Lubbock, TX
Entries Accepted August 6th - August 20th
Every year, the Ale-ian Society sponsors the Cactus Challenge, the premier homebrew competition of the South Plains, featuring West Texas hospitality, sunny days and starry nights, and, of course, the best intergalactic homebrew on the planet! Unusual twists include our signature "most unusual ingredient" category, past winners of which include Bryan Yeargain's inimical "quinine" beer, and Diana Theall's inspired "cinnamon toothpick" brew. From connoisseur, to aficionados, to novice, we welcome all homebrewers, so please accept our invitation to compete and/or participate in the judging, or to simply attend our competition, share your expertise, or learn a thing or two new about homebrewing, all as you sample some of the finest.
Each year after the judging we sponsor a special dinner and an awards ceremony. The night will also feature raffles of beer-related paraphernalia, great Ale-ian homebrew, sparkling (depending on your level of inebriation) conversation, incredible homebrew networking opportunities, and, of course, recognition of brewing talent, highlighted by the presentation of the Cactus Challenge Best of Show Belt Buckle.
The Cactus Challenge is a quality competition, is registered with and adheres to all American Homebrewers Association and BJCP guidelines and categories. Above all, the Ale-ian Society wants to share with you some good times and great homebrew. Check out our web site for more information on the next Cactus Challenge.
